Me

As you might have guessed by now, my name is Chris! I'm a 22 year old guitarist that loves music and loves to teach. I am friendly, patient and naturally suited to teaching of any kind. My talent and passion for music enables me to feel 100% confident that I can help any student develop the talent that they don’t even realise they have. Every student is different; they have different strengths and different learning styles, and I thoroughly enjoy the challenge of adapting how I teach to suit the student.

My teaching

I have been teaching guitar for 4 years, and before that I tutored maths at Key Stage 2 and 3, so I have plenty of experience and success stories. My favourite part of teaching is seeing a student grow in confidence, and seeing the look of pride on their face when they accomplish something they thought they couldn't! I have had many wonderful students at many different skill levels, and they have helped me to adapt my own teaching style and build on my skills. I sometimes wonder if I'm teaching or learning! 

 

I teach using a variety of techniques including example tracks and detailed visual aids such as charts and guitar notation. Teaching isn't just a way of making a bit of money for me, this is what I love to do, and I invest a lot of time and energy into becoming a better teacher, and becoming even more knowledgable with music and guitars. 

My playing

I have been playing the guitar for about 5 years, which means that I learnt recently enough for me to remember what it was like, and identify the areas people often struggle. Most self taught guitarists lack an understanding of music theory or the ability to apply it, but not me! I have always had a natural ability for solving logical and mathematical problems, so I excel at, and actually enjoy music theory! I enjoy listening to most genres of music, but have a particular passion for the blues and classic rock! I often experiment with recording myself, using interesting sounds and layering guitar parts. I often try my hand at other instruments, apply what I know from the guitar and push myself to find a cool sound or idea!

I also play guitar for local singer/songwriter Kirsty Lowrie, often gigging in Birmingham and other areas.
